Job Description:
The CSD Dredging Manager is responsible for setting operational standards for all Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) vessels. This role involves supervising CSD Captains in the organization and execution of dredging works, ensuring adherence to safety management, quality, and environmental standards, while mitigating risks to personnel and equipment. The manager will work closely with the Dredging Operations Manager, Technical Department, and Dredge Superintendents.
Responsibilities:
- General:
- Establish operational standards for all CSD vessels.
- Supervise CSD Captains in organizing and executing dredging works.
- Maintain safety management, quality, and environmental standards.
- Control and mitigate risks to personnel and equipment.
- Coordinate with the Dredging Operations Manager, Technical Department, and Dredge Superintendents.
- Advise and guide the Technical Department on repairs and maintenance of CSDs.
- Assist the Crewing Department in scheduling and selecting qualified crew for CSDs.
- Oversee the CSD simulator for crew training and development within the Dredging Academy.
- Specific:
- Improve and manage day-to-day operations onboard.
- Implement standards and structures across the CSD fleet to ensure uniformity.
- Review cost-effective execution methods with the Captain/PM/WM/DSI and monitor daily reports on actual vs. estimated output.
- Monitor reports, plan repairs and maintenance of CSDs, and provide timely reports to the Technical Department and Dredging Operations Manager.
- Closely monitor the performance of pipe operators and first skippers.
- Supervise CSD Captains in operational planning, daily activities, and execution of dredging works.
- Collaborate with DSI, Technical Superintendent, and Production Department to optimize dredging methods and configurations.
- Identify talent and develop crew to enhance long-term performance and output.
- Provide objective evaluations of CSD Captains and key crew members.
- Ensure clear and factual reporting of repairs, production, and operations by the crew.
Objectives:
Supervise the execution of dredging works according to established plans, budgets, and methods, while adhering to quality, safety, and environmental standards, and minimizing risks to personnel and equipment.
Accountabilities:
The Manager will coordinate activities and prioritize HSE to ensure successful project completion.
The Manager will implement HSE policy by:
- Setting a positive example for colleagues.
- Ensuring effective application of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS).
- Seeking advice from HSE Management.
- Ensuring proper communication of risks and impacts to supervisors and workers.
- Verifying the qualifications and competence of personnel.
- Ensuring project activities comply with HSE regulations and requirements.
- Conducting inspections, reporting non-conformities, and ensuring follow-up.
- Ensuring employee understanding of HSE regulations.
- Ensuring reporting of accidents, near misses, and hazardous situations, and implementing immediate corrective actions.
- Analyzing events and implementing improvements across the fleet.
- Proposing measures to prevent personnel risks.
- Fulfilling emergency response responsibilities as defined in the Emergency Response Plan.
Duties:
- Planning:
- Follow daily and weekly operational planning of CSD.
- Plan upcoming activities (weekly) with relevant personnel.
- Organizing:
- Actively participate in mobilization/demobilization.
- Monitor CSD dredging activities.
- Deciding:
- Determine dredging methods based on contract requirements.
- Provide daily feedback from CSD dredging data, production, survey results, and financial objectives.
- Executing:
- Provide daily reports to Project Management.
- Ensure CSD and auxiliary equipment are in good condition and defects are reported.
- Verify the safety of hired plant equipment and supervise periodic tests and inspections.
- Ensure work is carried out safely and without risk to health.
- Establish chapters for the final project operations report, including performance, production, soil data, and other price-influencing elements.
- Controlling:
- Monitor the progress of own and subcontractor work.
- Control the dredging process, check production, and determine improvements.
- Oversee daily site activities.
- Monitor labor performance (number and rates).
- Specific HSE Tasks:
- Conduct HSE inspections.
- Organize or delegate toolbox meetings.

Qualifications & Certifications:
- Master's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Marine Engineering.
- Risk Assessment certification.
Relevant Experience:
- In-depth understanding of dredging processes, equipment, land reclamation, and pipelines.
- Ability to transform raw data into a readable format and interpret it.
- Experience implementing dredging methodologies.
- Analytical capability.

- 10+ years of experience on self-propelled CSD with minimum cutter power >5 MW as a captain.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience in operating and managing Cutter Suction Dredgers.
- Extensive experience with self-propelled Cutter Suction Dredgers (5000kW Inboard pump, 7000kW cutter power, and 2X3500 kW propulsion power).
- Strong leadership skills to oversee multinational crew operations.
- Expertise in dredging project planning, organizing, deciding, executing, and controlling.
- Ability to optimize dredging performance and ensure project efficiency.
- Strong understanding of HSE and operational best practices in dredging.
Salary & Benefits Package:
- Salary Range: AED 50,000 – 60,000 per month (tax-free, inclusive of accommodation and transportation).
- Contract Type: Family status (spouse + up to 3 children under 18 years).
